The 2024 Kia Forte is a compact sedan that checks all the right boxes for value-conscious shoppers in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Huntsville. It even presents them with some choices not found elsewhere in the segment. With five great trim levels, two excellent engines, and an impressive trio of different transmissions, the 2024 Kia Forte appeals to a broad spectrum of shoppers, budgets, and demographics. If you were starting to think compact sedans have had their day, the Kia Forte challenges you to think again.
There are five trim levels to choose between in the 2024 Kia Forte family, starting with the fleet-focused LX and its steel wheels. Retail shoppers will probably look to the LXS trim level and higher trims, which are the GT-Line, GT, and range-topping GT Manual. All five trim levels are front-wheel-drive and have that class-leading warranty, and it’s also worth pointing out that the Kia Forte was named Highest in Initial Quality among Compact Cars by the highly respected J.D. Power.
The Forte benefits from a recent redesign, and despite such attractive pricing, you’ll struggle to find much about the compact Kia sedan that screams budget or economy. The exterior styling is sleek, modern, and sporty, which is why some have seen fit to draw strong comparisons between the latest Forte and Kia’s bigger and much more expensive sports sedan.
The LX, LXS, and GT-Line grades of the 2024 Kia Forte have a standard 2.0-liter inline-four under the hood providing 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque that gets sent to the front wheels through Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), just one of a trio of available transmissions.
If you’d prefer a Forte with a more strident powerplant than the base 2.0-liter four-pot, the GT and GT Manual trim levels up the power ante with a 1.6-liter turbo-four that sees the 2024 Forte graduate to 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2024 Kia Forte GT transfers that power to the wheels through a standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) with paddle shifters exclusive to the GT. If you want to be even more involved with the Forte, the GT Manual predictably swaps the DCT transmission of the GT for a six-speed manual option.
Automatic headlights, high beam assist, and a full complement of power features feature across the lineup. The base model also comes with standard air conditioning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist w/ Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, remote keyless entry, and a Rear-View Monitor w/ Dynamic Parking Guidance. Every model also comes equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system featuring Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. However, while the LX and LXS trim levels come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch unit with Navigation, Kia Connect & SiriusXM Satellite Radio is what you get if you upgrade to the GT-Line, GT, or GT-Manual.
The impressive GT and GT Manual trim levels also get standard wireless charging, SynTex or SynTex and cloth upholstery, and a decent helping of advanced safety and driver-assist features. However, if you are keen to have the best protection and the latest driver-assist features available for the 2024 Kia Forte, please keep in mind that some of them are only available if you have an automatic transmission. That’s why the GT gets several advanced safety and driver-assist features that are unavailable if you choose the GT Manual. The driver assistance technologies that were formerly included in the Tech Package are now standard on the GT-Line trim level for the 2024 model year.
If you’re shopping for a compact vehicle and AWD and a few inches of extra headroom aren’t essential, it’s hard to see what advantage a small SUV has over the sensational 2024 Kia Forte.
