There’s a fine line between producing a stylish, unique, and futuristic vehicle and coming up with one that looks “out there” and polarizing. When you see a 2024 Kia EV6 on the roads around Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Birmingham, Montgomery, or Huntsville, you’ll know it’s something special. But unlike some rival fully electric vehicles, the exterior styling of the EV6 is as appealing as the crossover’s excellent all-electric, zero-emissions powertrain.
The easy way to bring a new electric vehicle (EV) to the market is to drop an electric motor and battery pack into an existing model in place of its standard internal combustion engine. That’s far from ideal, which is why the 2024 Kia EV6 is built on a bespoke platform, allowing the designers to come up with a look that’s as attractive as it is unique.
And unlike some rivals where only one or two high-spec trim levels are available, there are five versions of the EV6 for shoppers to choose from. The lineup starts with the Light (RWD) and then goes to the Wind (RWD), Wind (e-AWD), GT-Line (RWD), and GT-Line (e-AWD). However, while the GT-Line (e-AWD) was the top-of-the-range model for 2022, the 2024 Kia EV6 range has a new pinnacle in the shape of the EV6 GT.
If you care about the impact driving has on the environment but also love the thrill of driving a car with plenty of performance, it used to seem like you had to forgo one or the other. That’s no longer the case with the arrival of the Kia EV6, especially the all-new 2024 Kia EV6 GT trim level. The EV6 is sensational to look at, fantastic to drive, and there’s plenty of power available to keep enthusiastic drivers happy.
Until now, there were three propulsion options for the EV6. The most affordable features a 58 kWh battery pack and produces 167 horsepower. The other two get a more substantial 77.4 kWh battery pack, which in single-motor rear-drive form produces 225 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. In dual-motor all-wheel drive form, the system develops an even more impressive 320 horsepower and 446 lb.-ft. However, the EV6 GT produces a staggering 576 horsepower and 545 lb.-ft. of torque, and also gets an upgraded chassis to handle the power and deliver a 0-60mph time of just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph.
Electric vehicles like the 2024 Kia EV6 are still something of a novelty to many, which is why it can be so easy to get hung up on the electric powertrain, range, etc. But the EV6 is a superb package where no aspect of being a great vehicle gets overlooked. The sporty, futuristic exterior styling might lead you to assume there may be some compromise of interior space, but that’s certainly not the case, as the cabin of the EV6 is exceptionally spacious.
And if you think the styling and the electric powertrain are a glimpse of the future that’s already here today, wait until you investigate the standard and available features. While you might expect to find the dual 12.3-inch screens for controlling many of the Kia’s onboard systems, where have you come across an augmented-reality head-up display before?
You could easily find yourself wondering what the catch is when you get down to investigating the 2024 Kia EV6 in detail. The truth is there isn’t one, and the EV6 delivers on every level as a compact crossover SUV, a genuine driver’s car, and an exercise in sustainable mobility.
